RPL’s toner residue contributes to ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ award at LCA 2025

The world's most sustainable, low-carbon brick.

Telford, UK, 17 November 2025 – On Friday 26 September, the London Construction Awards (LCA) 2025 brought the industry together for a spectacular evening, celebrating the very best of the UK’s built environment.

The event brought together over 450 industry professionals to honour achievements across 20 categories, and saw a record-breaking number of entries, showcasing the innovation, growth, and diversity powering the UK’s construction industry.

Excitingly, Ricoh UK Products Ltd’s (RPL) affiliate, Kenoteq, was announced as the winner of the ‘Excellence in Sustainability (Product)’ category – by their own admission, “beating off stiff competition from a wealth of established and emerging players.”

Kenoteq’s winning product, UK and US-certified ‘K-BRIQ’ is cited as “the world’s most sustainable, low-carbon brick.”

What is the K-BRIQ?

The K-BRIQ is a near 100% recycled premium brick product combining a competitive technical specification with superior sustainability and an ultra-low carbon performance. It’s made from certified inert recycled construction and demolition aggregates, together with recycled pigments such as residual toner – some of which, is provided by RPL.

Speaking of the product’s ideation, a spokesperson for Kenoteq commented: “The world’s finite resources are being rapidly depleted. More than a third of waste in global landfill is estimated to be of demolition and construction origin. Furthermore, there is a distinct lack of low carbon materials to meet net zero carbon targets, and a fundamental need for sustainable building materials.

“At Kenoteq, we repurpose materials to instigate and sustain circular economy practices, contributing towards net zero carbon targets.”

Why is the K-BRIQ more sustainable than other bricks?

As part of the K-BRIQ solution, working closely with Ricoh’s engineers and other suppliers, Kenoteq has developed a unique, patented methodology which emits 95% less embodied carbon than non-recycled counterparts. Click here to find out how it works.

According to the LCA organisers: “The judges felt that K-BRIQ deserved the award for its innovative use of nearly 100% recycled substances to create a durable, reliable building material. It combines quality and scalability to offer a practical, long-lasting solution that reduces construction waste.”

What are the CO2 and material savings of using K-BRIQ?

To date, working with Ricoh and other fellow suppliers, customers and partners, Kenoteq has saved 101,848 KG of CO2 emissions, and repurposed 484,815 KG of materials, through their innovative solutions.

Said Kenoteq’s Chief Executive, Andrew Holt: “Kenoteq is honoured to take home the Excellence in Sustainability – Product award so soon after the K-BRIQ's certification by the British Board of Agrément.

“Our vision is to deliver certified bricks for exemplar projects, blazing a trail in the circular economy revolution and bringing a scalable manufacturing and sustainable product solution, together with waste management partners, into an international marketplace.”

Already, Kenoteq has made many waves (and BRIQs) globally, with projects across the UK and internationally with its range of eco-friendly bricks – including London, Manchester, Weybridge, St Albans, Glasgow, Tuttlingen and Berlin (Germany), and Dubai (UAE). Kenoteq’s first full facade project using the K-BRIQ (~8,050 bricks) will be delivered in London by the end of the year, recycling waste from the London Olympics.

Following the awards, RPL was also pleased to learn that the K-BRIQ has been launched to shelves and online across the nation at B&Q, the UK's largest DIY retailer.

Who knows – your next build project might be supported by Ricoh's very own residual toner!
