RPL deploys energy management system to optimise energy use and reduce CO₂ emissions
Telford, UK, 30 June 2026 — Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL) has implemented an advanced energy management system at its Telford manufacturing site, enhancing visibility of energy use and supporting further progress towards its net-zero 2030 ambition.
Delivered in partnership with SolarEdge, the Hark energy management platform provides real-time insight into energy consumption across the site, enabling faster, data-driven decision-making to reduce waste, improve operational efficiency, and lower carbon emissions.
The system integrates data from multiple energy sources — including solar generation, electricity, gas, water, and EV infrastructure — into a single, unified view. This allows RPL’s engineering and facilities teams to identify inefficiencies quickly, optimise equipment performance, and better understand energy usage across multiple buildings.
Since deployment, the platform has already delivered tangible results. For example, improved visibility of energy consumption identified unnecessary weekend usage in laboratory areas, enabling a simple operational change that resulted in a £4,000 cost saving.
The system also supports ongoing optimisation projects by enabling teams to validate improvements, reduce energy demand, and quantify associated CO₂ reductions.
RPL has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, having achieved an 80% reduction in CO₂ emissions since 2002, alongside over £500,000 in annual energy savings through continuous improvement initiatives and investment in renewable energy and efficiency projects.
The introduction of the Hark energy management system builds on that progress, providing the insight needed to further optimise operations, maximise the value of existing infrastructure, and support the development of more efficient, data-driven manufacturing processes.
Andy Smith, Engineering Specialist at Ricoh UK Products Ltd, said: “The platform has quickly become an essential tool for managing energy across the site. It gives us clear, reliable data that allows us to identify issues faster and make more informed decisions.
“Most importantly, it enables us to target CO₂ reduction activities with greater precision and turn insight into measurable action.”
